This cake was the most important piece on the table with respect to the number of marks it was allotted; we therefore wanted it to be very striking.
The idea was taken from a poster advertising round the world travel. One side of the cake represents travel by land and the other travel by sea. This was displayed on a rotating turntable.
Due to the importance of this piece we were all involved. Kathy coated the cake (no mean feat as it was a 12" dome). Kathy and Monica did the landmasses. Rachel did the collar over the cake (this was about 18" wide at the bottom and fun to handle). Monica and myself did the brush embroidery on the landmasses and Monica did the curved run-out of the train and the two run-outs of the liners.
This cake was fun to transport as it was 18" wide at the base and had lots of free-standing structures.
